Easter in Damascus Syria.
March and April 2009 I spent in Damascus, the capital of Syria doing some historical research.
I had rented a room in the Christian quarter of the old city in the Bab Touma quarter.
There I found out that Easter is quite an event for the christian communities in the city.
About two weeks before Easter the brass bands of the churches start rehearsing for the processions that start on white thursday and continue until the second day of Easter.
As there are more than twenty churches in Bab Touma alone during the first hours of the evening you can hear the sound of the bands all over the area.
On this page you will find one embedded movie and some more links to my Youtube movies. Don't expect good quality because I left my movie camera home. So the movies are either made with my cell phone or with my digital photo camera. But they still give a good impression of the Easter activities in Bab Touma.
